It’s a new year! A fresh start! I love beginnings. Don’t you?

“His compassions fail not. They are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness!” Lamentations 3:22-23  God is all about starting again. There’s no place we can go that is beyond His reach to start over.

In 2024, what will you start?

Starting is the easy part. It’s the most exciting. Starting something new keeps things interesting, presents a challenge to conquer, and enriches our perspective.

In the New Year, motivation is high.  It is the perfect time to start again.

In 2024, how will you start?

Your day?

Your meal?

Your work?

Your conversations?

Your worship?

How we start sets the tone, our pace, our impact, and how or if we will finish.

When it comes to health and weight, you probably have a list of things you know you should start fresh in the new year.  Is starting a new habit, a new program, a new routine, a new eating or exercise plan on your list?   You care about taking care of yourself. You’ve tried many strategies to do so. You’ve had some success.

Your list of “starts” are most likely spot on.

But…here’s the downside to starting…

We can get stuck starting.  Starting can become a cycle that is repeated without ever really finishing. Without ever really reaching the goal.  So… we keep repeating the starting-again-cycle with the next new plan.  Do you find yourself still looking for the next new “start” to finally be “the answer?”

What if reaching your goal had little to do with your list of “starts”?

What if the reason we lose interest, stop our starts, never fully reaching the desired result is more about our mindset than just our actions?  Actions matter. Our list of starts does matter.

But…intentional…

Action follows emotion.  And emotion follows thinking.

Making our MINDSET the key to finishing anything we start.

100% of the time.

Our thought patterns drive our emotions, our emotions drive our actions, our actions drive results, and those results build our beliefs.  It’s the CTEARB Model of Mindset Mastery at work.

Circumstance (could be the goal you want to achieve)

Thoughts (about that goal)

Emotions (that are evoked from those thoughts)

Actions (that are taken based on those emotions)

Results (from those actions)

Beliefs (built from those results)

Recognize the continual flywheel… if your mindset thought patterns are not reset, the next time you set another goal (or even the same goal again) your mindset reflects your past beliefs about that goal and the cycle perpetuates itself despite your best intentions.

So if you find yourself in the starting – again-cycle;  it’s your mindset to blame.

Ultimately…

It’s not your will power. (actions follow thinking and feeling)

It’s not the wrong “start”.

It’s not a motivation problem.

It’s our thinking.

We self-sabotage through faulty thought patterns.

The heart and the mind are interchangeable in Scripture.  The heart thinks.  It’s the center of our being.

“As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 23:7

“Be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” Romans 12:1

2024 is your year to finish.

I’m so thankful God is also all about finishing what He starts.  “Being confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6

Be clear on how to start, how to progress, and how to sustain your results.

At Eureka! how you finish is just as important as how you start.

Finishing means:

#1: Recognizing your self-sabotage tendencies, and having a plan when your brain serves you one of these 5D thought patterns of:

  • Distraction
  • Doubt
  • Discouragement
  • Delay
  • Defeat

#2. Knowing how to renew your mind and rewire negative thought loops that keep you stuck in the repeating start-stop cycle

#3: Mastering your mindset first before you start the new strategy

Inside the D.R.E.S.S. for Health Coaching Program we teach mindset mastery techniques from a Biblical perspective to:

  • Retrain old and harmful thought patterns to create new thought patterns (neuroplasticity) aligned with God’s purposes and truth
  • Master negative emotions that spiral from these thought patterns
  • Expose faulty beliefs (based in spiritual stressors of anger, fear, guilt and more)

This inner work is the missing piece to finishing.

That’s where coaching comes in.  Mastery Monday Group Coaching + Mindset Mastery course modules provide the tools and personalized coaching for renewing our thoughts, emotions and beliefs within a Christ-centered community of others doing the same!
