Whole food lifestyle is all about replacing processed foods and ingredients with whole, nutrient dense ones. This is the first step to next week’s article on How to Transform Recipes!
Healthy food = Healthy nutrients. Ignore the front of the package claims… most of the time these are just hype. The ingredient label is where it’s at!!

A great resource for becoming really educated on all the ingredients that are in our foods is: The Pantry Principle by Mira Dessy. Full of helpful shopping tips and recipes, this book is a great resource for understanding whole food lifestyle, avoiding GMO’s and how to make your recipes healthy (next week’s article)
To give you an idea of what’s in this book… Here’s the Pantry Principle’s Seven Shopping Rules:
#1: Do you have to look it up?
#2: Does it have a number?
#3: Does it have 4 or more syllables?
#4: Is it unpronounceable?
#5. Does it end in a-t-e?
#6. Is it enriched?
#7. Is it all capital letters, not words?
When thinking about replacing ingredients… the two most important categories are FATS & SWEETENERS, so let’s start with those:
FATS

SWEETENERS

DAIRY

BAKING
